Our Roots
Remembering our roots
Farm Bureau Insurance began selling property and casualty policies in Tennessee in 1948. Farming was a more dangerous occupation than it is now, and many insurance companies were unwilling to insure farm structures.
So, the farmers of Tennessee, working through the Tennessee Farm Bureau, launched their own insurance company. It wasn't long before their friends and neighbors wanted to take advantage of Farm Bureau's insurance program. Since our humble beginnings with just 1,000 policies, we have grown to become one of the top insurance companies in the state with over 2 million automobiles, homes, and small businesses covered by Farm Bureau Insurance.
Farm Bureau Insurance's life company was launched in 1973. It is one of the largest writers of individual life insurance in the state of Tennessee. We have offices in more Tennessee communities than any other insurance company. There is at least one in every county.
Farm Bureau Insurance operates 16 regional claims centers throughout Tennessee and employs more than 350 claims professionals who are dedicated to prompt and caring service for those who have sustained a loss.
You don't have to be a farmer to get Farm Bureau Insurance, but you do have to be a member of the Tennessee Farm Bureau. For only $30 per family, Farm Bureau membership has many advantages in addition to top-quality insurance programs. Members enjoy discounts on a wide array of goods and services, have access to health and safety programs, and receive an award- winning membership magazine four times a year.
The Tennessee Farm Bureau is the nation's largest state Farm Bureau organization, with more than 680,000 member families. The success of the insurance operations in Tennessee helps drive that figure. Farm Bureau Insurance covers one in four people in Tennessee.
